What is the Beantown Spring Classic?

The Beantown Spring Classic is a three day event taking place Wednesday, March 8th-Friday, March 10th with the intent of showcasing the best players from east coast in a small event setting for the purpose of giving the NHL scouts and college recruiters the best forum to evaluate the top talent from the past year in one setting. The tournament features three boys divisions and the USPHL Premier and Elite championship series.

Divisions

Draft Division

Four teams will play a three game round robin event over the course of two days. We will be selecting players from the USPHL Premier, EHL, Midget, Prep and HS teams from New Jersey, NY and New England. Player selection for this division will be made solely by our NHL scouting partners. Most players invited will be on Central scouting midterm draft list or already committed to a D-1 college program. Each game will consist of two 25 minute periods. Age eligible players are born between 1997-1999. Each team will be coached by a NHL scout. Cost is $305 per player.

College Division

Six teams will be selected and will play three games over three days. Each team will consist of 10 forwards, 6 defense and 2 goalies. Players will be selected from the USPHL, EHL, Midget AAA and Prep/High school programs. Player selection for this division will be made based on winter coach nominations and selections will be made with the input of our NHL scouting partners and college coaches. This division will be made up of high end players who did not make Central scouting midterm report but were on it before and players who are close to getting a D-1 college deal done but have not done so yet. Age eligible players are born between 1996-1999. All teams will be coached by NHL scouts. Cost is $280 per player.

Pre-Draft Division

Four teams will play a three game round robin event. Each team will consist of 12 forwards, 6 Defense and 2 goalies. Players will be selected from the USPHL, Midget AAA and Prep/High school programs. Age eligible players are born between 2000-2001. No 00/01 birth year players can play “up” in the Draft Division. All teams will be coached by NHL scouts. Cost is $290 per player

FAQ

Q: Are there tryouts for the Beantown Spring Classic?

A: No there are not, the Beantown Spring Classic is an invite only event.

Q: What is the selection process for the Beantown Spring Classic?

A:The scouting staff for the Beantown Classic watches games (USPHL, EHL, Midgets, Prep/HS) over a period from Labor day thru the 3rd weekend in December (prep tournament weekend).

After the prep tournament weekend a list of top performers is compiled. This list has over 240 names for the Draft Division and 130 names for the Pre-Draft Division.

The staff then meets after the holidays and selects 50% of the players (approximately 30 of 72 total) and sends invitations. The first group of players selected are those players who have made D-1 college commitments or players that the NHL has serious interest in drafting.

Players who are still on the list will be monitored over the month of January. Based on performance and past accomplishments the remaining players will be selected.

The remaining player selection will be made by the fourth week of February.

Once the players have been selected the staff will continue to monitor the rest of the list as injuries and spring sport conflicts will open up additional spots for invitation.

If you have a D-1 scholarship commitment, and scholarship offer from a D-1 college or you are listed on NHL central scouting mid-term report and you have not received and invite please contact asap. Sometimes the invite gets lost in cyberspace or the mail.
